In the recently concluded Breakthrough Discuss conference, astronomers have revealed about Proxima Centauri which might have a second planet revolving around its dim orbits. The planet has been named Proxima c and its detection, is not confirmed yet. The researchers have filed their observation in paper to a peer-reviewed publication and it is not yet accepted. However, the researchers are very enthusiastic about having detected a new exoplanet that is situated close to our planet, and optimism is very high about advance observations on Proxima c, which leads to the ultimate validation of its presence.
The researchers have used High Accuracy Radial velocity Planet Searcher (HARPS) for their observation. HARPS stares profoundly into the night sky to see gravitational variances caused by planets that are orbiting, other celestial objects and passing comets. HARPS will continue to make observations of Proxima c, helped by backing from the Gaia star-gazing spacecraft which is functioned by the European Space Agency. Observation of Proxima c will in future help the researchers to measure properties intrinsic to it, and how its elements shape up.
Despite plausible enthusiasm about the discovery of an adjacent exoplanet, Proxima c is barely a candidate for life possibility. Proxima b is already supposed to be an unfruitful world and it falls under the habitable zone of Proxima Centauri and the planet’s appearance is of a possible atmosphere that being blown away because of flares from its dwarf star. It has polar differences as it lacks biosphere. This means boiling daytimes, and chilling night times and both of them are not appropriate for the presence of life, even though the Proxima b falls in the possible zone where hypothetically, there might be the existence of water in liquid form. Proxima c is located around 1.5AU away from its previous discovered planet and it is about 140 million miles away from the possibly livable zone.
